Summary

Combines a broad approach with many specific examples and relevant case studies.

Part 1 discusses the policy context for textbooks in developing countries.

Part 2 deals with content and curriculum with case studies from Africa, Malaysia, China, and Iran.

Discusses expatriate books versus mother-tongue materials and concludes that it is not cost effective to develop mother-tongue materials. It might be possible for one developing country to use or adapt books from another developing country, such as India or Mexico.
