Title: Report on the Ansus survey, West Yapen Island, Papua, Indonesia

Paper: PDF (1895 KB, 35 pages)A survey of the Ansus language was conducted to establish the sociolinguistic center of the West Yapen cluster of languages thought to be Ansus, as well as to determine the language attitudes and language use of Ansus speakers. Another goal was to determine which of the West Yapen languages are most suitable as a target for computer adaptation technologies of vernacular literature production from Ambai, an East Yapen language. Through the use of sociolinguistic questionnaires, informal data gathering, and observation, the survey team concluded that Ansus is the sociolinguistic hub of the West Yapen cluster, and that Ansus is likely suitable as a target for literature production using computer-adaptation technologies based on existing Ambai literature.
